Deep Purple Fluorite Gemstone Necklace

This fluorite has a bit of a secret. In ordinary light it looks so dark it can almost pass for black, but catch it in bright light and that deep purple suddenly shows itself. I hand soldered the natural gemstone with a simple silver frame and formed bail, leaving that broad face of the stone to do what it does best. I rather like that the purple does not announce itself immediately...you have to catch it. Handmade in my home studio.

Artisan Handmade Process

My medium is the Tiffany-style stained glass technique, combining glass, gemstones, and other materials using the copper foil method. My metalwork features a blend of tin, silver, copper, and brass, all safe for sensitive skin. Instead of torch soldering, I use a soldering iron, which gives me more flexibility to create a diverse variety of organic designs.
